Not a monthly based subscription

According to motive this is not a monthly subscription based ELD. Instead they charge annually and when you try to cancel before the annual year is over, they won’t be paying you back for the months that are not being used. Also when you send them an email saying do not renew the contract if you don’t call them, they will renew the contact. Be aware of their scam.

It ding U for driving on roads that are IMPOSSIBLE for ur vehicle to even drive on when told about it they ( INDIA!!! ) refuses to correct it. Construction sites are another place that this program will ding U on. Even when the site isn’t active or has been removed. DRIVERS, TELL UR COMPANIES ABOUT THIS FLAWED PROGRAM !!! Why does a foreign country have authority over U.S citizens!?!? We just spent 45 minutes with 4 different individuals, with nothing resolved. Speaking to customer support is totally useless with this app. I’m so tired of hearing “ I totally understand sir “ with a heavy accent from India. “ I totally understand , sir “ doesn’t fix this terrible app. If this app cost U ur job, get a lawyer.

I’m going back to paper logs after trying this app. Not user friendly at all. Completely non-intuitive functions for logging. Use anything other than this app, or you’ll end up throwing your phone out the window.

Mgmnt wants us to use this app before and at the end of our shift. It’s so complicated with regards to navigating it, so many excessive clicks just to take a picture, so overly complicated. And that’s IF you get it to work at all. It’s so glitchy and just randomly kicks you out, without saving your progress so you would have to stat all over again! Utterly ridiculous and worthless. The only reason it gets one star is because Zero stars is not an option. Don’t force this app on your fleet you will be wasting money and unnecessarily frustrating your team of drivers.

I advise against using MOTIVE as an ELD provider because I have used their services for five years and found their prices excessively high. They charge $47.70 per driver, while there are much more affordable alternatives, including options for as low as $25 per driver. Additionally, when you subscribe to their services, your contract is automatically renewed for another year. If you wish to cancel your subscription, you must notify them at least one month before your current contract ends. For example, if your contract expires in December, you need to call them in November; otherwise, you will be forced to pay for the following year, even if you are not using their service. Many people do not read the contracts when signing up, and their agreement states that the contract will renew annually. If you do not inform them in advance about your cancellation, they will continue charging you. Based on this, I strongly advise against using this company as an ELD provider.

Works great

I’m a local driver so I only use the app for logs. I haven’t really had any major issues. Once I figured out how to navigate the app I am happy with it. I am thankful it’s free!

Your app is down. I cannot log in or receive dispatch’s says to contact you through email. It also keeps telling me to connect to the internet even though I already am

Glitches and the driver cam

Glitches with connectivity between phone and app. Ended up going through live help which tried their best, but no luck. The camera so far is the worst part and it’s the speed part. In TX it puts speed violations on you when you are on the main interstate. Camera picks up that you are on the frontage roads a lot. It does this in multiple states and is getting worse. When drivers pay is based of speeding but the equipment is faulty. Funny part got a speed warning to slow down. I was on the flat interstate in a 75mph limit, truck runs 75mph. I was passing a speed limit sign when I was told to slow down. Sign said 75mph. Motive claims it was 55mph. There was a side road that was behind trees and a hill. Got past the hill it had a 55mph speed limit sign on it as you could see it from the interstate. Motive needs to update their gps and speed detection systems for accuracy. Since hours of service has to be 100% accurate to comply with FMCSA standards. Motive needs 100% accuracy on speeds as well. If the speeds are inaccurate then the hours of service are inaccurate. Motive thank you for the response back. I understand that you are doing updates. I got a new box and camera yesterday. Coming across US 30 last night in a 55 and was getting speed warnings at 54mph. I worked with KeepTrucking when it first came out, to help with the web logs recording changes in speed along a given traveled route and airplane mode as I worked for a company where I was always on airplanes for my return trip. In the change from KeepTrucking to Motive did any of that information follow over. We worked countless hours on the project and it was set up so that when airplane mode when turned on for the tablet or phone it would give a straight line from service point to service point. They were working on getting the planes flight pattern from airport to airport so it showed air travel routes on the web logs. For your speed limit sources, are you using google? Reason I ask is google earth when pulling speed violations will have a construction zone or they have updated speed limits. Example I had a speed violation in Illinois and it was a past construction zone. Project was completed and all construction signs had been removed, but I got a speeding violation for operating at the updated posted speed limit where motive claims it was 45mph.

Support non existent

I’ve called repeatedly about their maps speeds and the false violations. They will not fix them and just tell me to call our fleet manager. Also will give you coachable event violations for hard breaking if something or someone jumps in front of you. I guess next time just run it over or break the law. At least you won’t get a coachable event. Lol

Garbage—STAY AWAY

Let’s be clear-I only use this because the company I work for selected Motiv. What this means is Motiv was the lowest bidder. I get stuck trying to connect to the same unit for 10-15 minutes on a regular basis. I can see in my Bluetooth settings that I’m connected, but the app won’t show connected. Try and drive and it will result in an unclaimed trip. Today was horrible. For some reason the app signed me out. Once I signed in, the screen where I’m supposed to be able to select which unit I would like to connect to was stuck showing the circle spinning. Deleted and reinstalled the app. Deleted the Bluetooth device. Reset the truck. 45 solid minutes trying to connect. That’s 45 minutes of lost time. Horrible.

Horrible app & service

DO NOT RECOMMEND. This app uses outdated maps. Then when you reach out to them and tell them about the false violations, they pass the buck and say reach out to your manager. Do not use this app or the camera that they use with it. It becomes more of a nuisance than a safety thing.

Okay, but has some usability issues

It’s generally okay to use, but I have 4 issues: 1) when you’re driving and it brings up the locked screen with your clock(s), it seems to default to one clock - your drive time remaining. I’m using an iPad in landscape and I like to see all 4 clocks, but I have to tap the toggle all the time to see them. I would like it to remember the last setting like the day / night toggle does. 2) equipment inspections. If I’m already connected to a vehicle (via Bluetooth), why does it give me a screen to select my vehicle? I can only operate one at a time! As for assets, I would like the selection screen to show everything entered in the trailer field, and give me the option to choose one or more items to apply the inspection to. For instance, I have to log an inspection 3 separate times when I’m hauling doubles (each trailer and the dolly). I should be able to select multiple items and go through the process just once. In fact, you could include the truck and all assets on one selection screen instead of having us select vehicle or asset. After the selection screen, the process for logging an inspection is very awkward. You have to tap all over the screen many times to complete the process. Drop down boxes which pop up from the bottom of the screen, then save in the upper right, then back to the bottom to accept my signature. Lots of tapping and it’s just a messy process. 3) my signature. I like when it saves it, but sometimes it doesn’t and wants me to re-draw it. My company has chosen to have us drivers go through a daily walkthrough, and it never fills in a saved signature 4) the daily walkthrough. It’s as awkward a process as adding an inspection. This could be made way better. I also have a problem with it prompting me to add an inspection. If I’m just starting my day, I need to spend the time doing a pre-trip while on duty before certifying the safe condition of the equipment. It should not be asking for this inspection during the “start your day” walkthrough.

Glitches

I like Motive and I used to use it when it was KeepTruckin. I’ve used other ELD’s and I think this is the best so far. My only complaint is that it’s glitches out from time to time. I get to a location and realize it didn’t record my driving. Although later it will give an option to update the missing drive time it’s an inconvenience if I don’t know exactly what I have to work with.

Speeding alert

It will say you speeding in a area that has posted speed limit but will give another speed limit alert. Me and a few other drivers notice that there A.I cameras, with this motive system is detecting false readings. All of us drive in this one area that has a posted speed limit 70. But all of us get a speeding alert saying it 55. Then our safety department get on us about it, after telling them it not 55 it 70. We came up with the solution that this motive company must be using google map or Waze to determine the speed limit for every road because when you go on google map or Waze it showing 55 in a area that had construction a long time ago. But google map or Waze hasn’t update it in there system either. Also how can a A.I camera determine when your in a construction zone with a speed limit 55 and out of it. There are no signs up the majority time saying when your out of a construction zone and can return to the normal speed limit, so something odd about that feature. They should just remove that feature it throwing false reading. And places like Nashville got digital speed limit signs that change through out the day base on traffic flow. Google map and Waze not even accurate because speed limit changes everyday. If motive ADDED video clips of the speeding they so called say that we are doing then, that will be great so safety department can see for themselves that the A.I made a mistake. Companies aren’t believing the driver because of your system giving false riding. Either add the feature with video clips of speeding or remove it and leave it up to highway patrol to give us speeding ticket. Let the driver be accountable for his actions not relying on A.I cameras to throw false alerts and the driver getting in trouble for something he/she not even doing. They send video clip of everything else but not speeding. And watch they respond with the same response, like there doing under every review. We know your not reading the reviews and trying to improve your company. Everything else works well. Just that false speed reading is a waist of time getting innocent people in trouble with there company.

Very Annoying Update!!

Under maintenance when you select “Pre-Trip inspection” it makes you select “Pre-Trip Inspection” a 2nd time. It also makes you select the truck or trailer rather than just defaulting to it. The Software update just made the app very cumbersome to use. They took an app that was working fine and messed it up.

Terrible app

This app is by far the worst. The update make you have to push so many buttons just to do an inspection. The app lags all the time. The recent update showed me shift violation on split berth when I didn’t go over my time. Also the violation didn’t appear till over a week later. Tech support said they was looking into it’s been 4 days and no word. If you are doing split berth make sure you screenshot your progress. In case pulled over by DOT and start looking for another ELD system.

Good app news a few tweaks.

This app is pretty good keeping track of your driving daily. I really wish the pre/post trip section had it to where you can select all instead of having to thumb up all the categories individually. That would be helpful. I’d give it 5 stars then.

Stupid

With every new update to make it harder and harder to do simple things. Like selecting vehicle in the inspection menu. What was wrong with the old select that you had to put in “search” for the vehicle? More steps needed to do one step task. Stupid.

Bluetooth issues

Ever since I downloaded the app for the company, I work for now my Bluetooth disconnects constantly from my headset as soon as I walk away from the truck if you’re not sitting in the truck headset will not work if I am out of my truck. And it is a Bluetooth Apple device headset.

Do not download this app. It is ran by a bunch of crooks and thieves that should be in jail. These people who made this app have absolutely zero automotive knowledge. The main purpose of it is to steal your information and sell it because everyone at our company who downloaded this started receiving spam calls and spam emails the very next day I’ve never had a spam call or email in two years and now I’m getting them all the sudden because of this app. For a driving app, they want things that they shouldn’t need like they want my telephone number. They want my mailing address. They’re crooks. They deserve to be in jail.

Just because you yawn doesn't mean you are drowsy. As an additional bonus, this app does not know the correct speed limit on a lot of roads and will claim you are speeding when you aren't.

Oh, and you’ll be locked into a contract they will remind you… that will cost $1000’s PER TRUCK to get out of. They have some nice features but the are robbing the trucking industry. And they lure you in by constant sales people. But the account manager they will assign to help you - will only be there to sell you fuel cards and better dash cams. Not to solve you problems. - Also we get a new account manager about every 2 weeks (no joke). Avoid this company unless you have thousands to waste PER TRUCK.

Unusable

Can’t review something you can’t use! Attempt to log in and it says I’m logged in on another device (I’m most definitely not and it lets me log in on the website) click continue anyway and it freezes and does nothing until you force close the app. Start the process all over and it freezes at the same spot every time. Even tried logging in on website then logging out and then attempting to log in on app but nothing changes.

Bad AI, False alerts, running a stop sign when there isn’t one. Speeding when going under the posted speed limit. Can’t review your own video footage. Some woke reject than can’t get a real job monitors it. Welcome to the new world where a stupid app is made by stupid people with stupid AI!

Won’t even let me sign up

Says enter valid phone number. Tried both of my phone numbers and then numerous others for some reason it just work. Says they are all invalid

Drive line

This app will not allow you to switch it to driveline or to add drive time when the application itself malfunctions. recently when I switched it to on duty because you can’t switch it to drive status, it automatically switched me back to yard move. There is no way to correct yard move to drive time there’s no way to split the time accurately. This should be a violation of CFR 39. 398.3 A&B

Idk what they’re updating all the time.

The updates they’re doing are obviously not as important as the updates their 3rd party company should’ve been doing for 3 years. Speed zone updates are important but they never do them, inactive school zones at 2 am, so many speed zone violation messages it’s utterly ridiculous. I’ll never click on a violation to review in app again until they get the gps system updates with speed zones.

Dash Camera

This message is for owner operators. Do not ever order the dash cam from this company. The sales team will deceive you that you could access the dash cam on your cellphone or tablet. They pushed me to sign the contract through docusign. Guess what, after I received the camera, it doesn’t work on cellphones or tablets at all. When I tell them to return it, they said that I have to pay the entire year because of the contract I signed. They will give you false information and after you sign the contract then you will be in trouble. Plus the customer service are pretending as if they are professional but they lie straight to your face. They don’t even care for your time & money. I’m warning you stay away from the Dashcam service. Someone will come under this comment saying “sorry for experiencing inconvenience bla bla…bs” sorry doesn’t mean nothing if you can’t value customers time and money.

Got worst

I’ve been using since 2017 their service isn’t getting better when fueling won’t add location it self always problem with engine synchronization called few times on it few years ago got violation no one fixed it got pulled over at Utah port of entry they couldn’t sent logs got violation they telling because state was missed it’s getting junk service as well customer service.

One more thing

Great past update! I feel like this should have been obvious, but new we just need an “Select all” button because under normal circumstances most of your vehicle is in top shape anyways.

Device not powering up and holding truck for 7 days

They device powered gave up on us and they are acting cheap to send new device, i am not technician, and new device is coming after 7 days
